2010 CERT Train-The-Trainer Courses in Texas

The Texas Association of Regional Councils (TARC) and the Texas Citizen Corps Program (TCCP) Announce a Pilot Program for CERT Instructors

Community Emergency Response Team CERT Master Instructor Course G-517

In an effort to bolster the number of CERT teams formed across the state of Texas, TARC and TCCP is looking to expand the CERT Train-the-Trainer program.

TEEX/ NERRTC have been contracted to develop an advanced training which will be called the CERT Master Instructor (CMI) course, G-571. This course is being proposed to increase the number of instructors qualified to deliver the basic CERT Train the Trainer course in local jurisdictions as well as the basic CERT course.

Qualified participants will be properly vetted to meet the following strict course prerequisites:

a.   Completion of the basic CERT course (G-317) – Copy of Certificate Required

b.   Completion of the basic CERT Train-the-Trainer course (G-417) - Copy of Certificate Required

c.   Completion of a minimum of ICS 700, 100, 200, and 300. (Copy of Certificate Required)

d.    Must be an experienced CERT Instructor

e.    Should be a member of a CERT team

f.    Have taught some aspect of the basic CERT course. - List area of expertise (i.e. Firefighting, Medical,       EMS)

g.    Possess a kit containing at least a hardhat, work gloves, and eye protection and able to bring that kit to        the CMI class

h.   Commit to the TARC/TCCP to conduct at least one basic TTT course within one year of completing
      the CMI course and one course per year thereafter in order to maintain CMI Certification.

i.   Letter of recommendation from a local Emergency Management Official.

Any qualified individual who meets the requirements is asked to contact their local Regional Council of Government (COGs) or local Emergency Management Official or Citizen Corps Council for a recommendation to participate in this course. The G-517 course is offered Free of Charge to qualified applicants. All travel and lodging costs will be incurred by participant or sponsoring COG.

COGs will forward the names to the Texas Citizen Corps Manager for further verification and approvals.
