ETCOG serves the growing 14-county East Texas planning region, an area of 10,021 square miles with a population of over 700,000. The population is almost evenly divided between urban and rural areas of the region. The area abounds with both scenic beauty and natural resources, with numerous lakes and extensive forests. ETCOG was created 28 years ago due to a desire by local officials to cooperate more effectively in solving common problems facing East Texs. A varied ETCOG work program has been pursued in order to coordinate development of the region to secure the greatest benefit for its citizens. Major areas of effort include comprehensive planning for the physical environment and training services, and planning for services to the aging. Technical assistance is provided to member governments in a wide variety of activities.

Board of Directors Meeting Date:
The ETCOG Board of Directors meet the third Thursday in March and September of each year.
