SPAG has maintained its focus on service to its membership by sponsoring workshops directed toward local offices and employees of SPAG members. Workshops have featured such diverse topics as election procedures, open meeting and open records requirements, full cost accounting for solid waste operations, council/manager relations, economic development techniques, and alternative dispute resolution
Opportunities created through SPAG have demonstrated the value of leveraging individual community resources in successful cooperative ventures, resulting in job creation through regional economic development. As part of its activities, SPAG operates a law enforcement training academy, a unique alternate dispute resolution center, administers a regional 9-1-1 emergency communicatons system, maintain a network of services for senior citizens, engages in an aggressive program of economic development, a regional solid waste management plan addressing local solid waste sconcerns and needs, and delivers technical assistance on demand to its members.
