Originally established in 1966 under the Public Works and Economic Development Act, the Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG) was later recognized under Article 1011m, the state regional council enabling legislation. Currently, BVCOG functions as a multipurpose organization, combining the advantages of an economic development district and a regional council of governments. As part of its economic development planning program, BVCOG assists member governments in developing strategies for regional economic growth. Other program areas include operation and administration of Section 8 housing, criminal justice, aging, and community development programs. With its continued emphasis on action projects, the council is actively involved in providing planning and technical assistance to member governments in implementing community development projects.
